Former Patient at Carthage CenterThe doctors told me I had congestive heart failure. It made me very weak, and after I took several bad falls, it was clear I needed rehab. I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew I needed a lot of help. That’s exactly what I got at Carthage Center. I love the therapy team. I had to work hard, but they worked just as hard as I did. They were determined to help me get stronger. And they did even more: They taught me how to manage my condition and to improve my quality of life. Thanks to the Carthage Center team, I’m back home with my husband now. I couldn’t be happier…or more grateful!
John Armstrong
Former Patient at Carthage CenterThere are two things I value in life above all else: my family and my independence. But last year, my whole life turned upside down. I was on my motorcycle when a car cut me off. I swerved, but too late. I was in bad shape—I can’t tell you how many bones I broke. The hospital patched me up, but I was in no condition to go home. I felt like the accident had cost me both my independence and my time with my family. But the moment I was wheeled into Carthage Center for my recovery, things started to look up. They were so welcoming and encouraging. The next day my physical therapy started, and I told my therapist I wouldn’t stop until I was back home, and he said neither would he! My physical and occupational therapists were both terrific. But the entire Carthage Center team was on my side, rooting for me. And they did it: got me back on my feet and back home. I’ve got my independence back and I’m home with my family again!

Resident at Carthage Center"I’ve always been an easy-going guy, accepting whatever life brings. But after my accident, when I couldn’t walk and needed an artificial shoulder, I have to admit I got pretty low. I wondered if I’d ever be able to enjoy life again. Checking into Carthage Center gave me new hope. They are so kind, compassionate and professional here. The therapists and the nurses are very patient and they understood my goals. Everyone here has played an important role in making me stronger. And as for enjoying life: the food here is great and so are the activities. I played virtual bingo with a Buffalo Sabres player hosting the game and I won a blanket! I’m walking again and may even be headed home soon. Thanks to the team at Carthage Center, life is good again!"
Nancy Walters
Former patient at Carthage Center"I had a second surgery on my hip, and I was beginning to wonder if it was a mistake. I could barely move. I couldn’t even put any weight on my legs. I just wanted to go home and hide. But my doctor said I needed to rehab and recommended Carthage Center. It’s the best advice I’ve ever gotten. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel right at home. I loved the food, the accommodations and the activities. But best of all was the therapy. I needed both occupational and physical therapy. I was amazed by how quickly they got me back on my feet, and how strong I felt. They worked magic. I’m back home now, on my own and independent. All I can say is, if you or someone you love needs to rehab from surgery, injury or illness…go to Carthage Center. They’re the best!"

Carthage CenterFirst, I had a stroke, which led to a fall, breaking my hip. I was almost completely helpless. I couldn’t put any weight on my legs and I needed assistance to do just about everything. I needed a lot of help—and got it at Carthage Center. The physical and occupational therapists were outstanding. They designed a rehab plan specifically for me—a plan that takes into account that I had recently suffered a stroke. It didn’t take long for me to feel my strength and endurance increasing. Three months after being admitted to Carthage Center, I’m back home again. The team there taught me how to live on my own again, not only with rehab, but they also helped me find resources in the community. They really want me to succeed!

Former Patient at Carthage CenterI have congestive heart failure, and it was getting worse. I could barely function—unable to even bathe or dress on my own. I wasn’t sure where to turn for help. Fortunately, I was referred to Carthage Center. The team there is wonderful. The therapists together with the medical staff put together a rehab program specifically designed for me. The kitchen and recreational teams provided vital support. They made a world of difference. After three weeks I was able to head back home. More than just helping me rehab, the Carthage Center team made sure to connect me with community services that would help me manage my condition. Going to Carthage Center was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!
